When thinking about summer foods, my mind leans toward nostalgia. I picture ice cream parlor trips with friends, nachos at the ballpark and hotdogs at family reunions. These are all fabulous snacking options, but what if you’re wanting something a little different like a crunchy salad or a seasonal soup?
You’ll find both, and more, on menus around town all summer, including brunches, a family-style roast chicken dinner series and fruity soufflés.
Dinner, brunch and cocktail menus at il Modo
The Italian restaurant housed in the Kimpton Harper Hotel has refreshed its menus with chef Irene Garza preparing summer dinner, brunch and cocktail specials at il Modo. Dinner is on the table 5-9 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 5-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with appetizers such as burrata, clams, focaccia and calamari.
Pastas, pizza, steak, seafood and salad entrees are available, as are whipped garlic potatoes, balsamic Brussels sprouts, asparagus and other sides. They’ve also got two types of tiramisu, daily gelato and sorbet options, and cannolis.
Many of their evening dishes are served during brunch. Breakfast lovers can also order classic waffles, oatmeal, avocado toast, chilaquiles and a Cowtown Benedict with brisket, mushrooms, leek and onions under hollandaise.
Staff said reservations are advised for high-traffic weekend dining hours and brunch. The latter runs 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday to Friday and 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. weekends.

Gazpacho soup at Rise Soufflé
Those who enjoy a bowl of soup but also want to cool down during the hot Texas summers might consider trying gazpacho soup. This Spanish dish, made with tomatoes, cucumbers, and red or green bell peppers is served cold and is currently on offer at the bistro and wine bar Rise Soufflé, as is lobster salad.
Staff at The Shops at Clearfork location didn’t know the cut-off date for these exclusives, but mentioned there is also a blueberry key lime soufflé for dessert.
Rise is known for their variety of sweet and savory soufflés, from escargot, macaroni and cheese with bacon, and smoked salmon versions to apricot, Grand Marnier and bread pudding iterations. Other menu items include mains of French onion soup, ahi tuna steak, a Parisian ham sandwich and a 6-ounce center cut filet with roasted fingerling potatoes.

They’re also hosting Steak Frites Monday. The special two-course menu opens with a salad or soup course followed by surf or turf entrees with cocktail and wine pairings.
