The founder of a multi-location local fitness studio is expanding with a new concept, this time in the Fan.

Angie Hardison, owner of The Hot Yoga Barre, is starting a new fitness studio called Re+forme at 1320 W. Cary St., which for six years was home to cardio and barre studio Maiden Motion before it closed in June.

Re+forme (stylized as re+forme) has slotted into the 2,200-square-foot location and is set to open in early September, offering a combination of Pilates and Lagree, a high-intensity, low-impact workout method that fuses Pilates, yoga and bodybuilding techniques.

Hardison is no stranger to the fitness world. Having grown up as a ballet dancer, she began teaching group fitness when she was 16 years old and never stopped.

“Teaching movement and wellness-based classes has always been something that has been a huge part of my life,” she said.

In 2015, she opened the first location of yoga and barre studio The Hot Yoga Barre in Willow Lawn at 1601 Willow Lawn Drive, followed by a second location in Midlothian at 2061 Huguenot Road in 2019.

Hardison said she’s been looking for a space to do a new fitness concept for a few years, but had found it difficult to find the right space to fit her needs until she saw the former Maiden Motion location.

“I wasn’t sure if I wanted to open another Hot Yoga Barre or if I wanted to do something different, and I decided to evolve what we have,” Hardison said.

Re+forme will offer three different types of classes: Re+forme Method, which focuses on Pilates-based movements, Re+forme Lagree, which is a classic Lagree class using slow, resistance-based movement and Re+Set, which blends yoga-inspired stretching and mobility work.

Customers can choose from multiple packages for a Re+forme membership. The studio is currently offering a limited, 50-slot founding membership for unlimited classes for $225 per month.

A single drop-in class is currently priced at $39, while five-pack and 15-pack classes are priced at $185 and $525, respectively.

Customers can also sign up for monthly memberships. A four class monthly membership is $130, while an eight class monthly membership is $225 and an unlimited class monthly membership is $350.

Re+forme is the first Lagree licensee to open in Richmond, a point Hardison is excited about, she said.

Hardison signed on to lease the space on Aug. 1, and is already set to open Re+forme in early September. She said the space will remain similar in layout and looks as it did when it was Maiden Motion, and that she will look to make updates to the space as she goes.

Re+forme will have a lobby and lounge area and a studio space with 12 machines.

Hardison said she will initially staff Re+forme with around 10 to 12 people, all of whom will be instructors she’s already worked with at the Hot Yoga Barre.

“The secret sauce of (the Hot Yoga Barre’s) success has always been our team and community – passionate, skilled, and soul-driven,” she said. “They’ve created something extraordinary, and now they’ll bring that same energy to Re+forme.”

Hardison said she feels that the classes at Re+forme can be both for those who are starting their fitness journeys, and those who want a complement to classes they may already be taking at a Hot Yoga Barre location.

“I’m very excited to reach more people,” Hardison said. “Not just to give people a great workout, but to help them feel strong and supported and connected.”
