Despite backlash to what some have described as “ridiculous” membership prices, bosses say there has already been “such excitement and anticipation” from the community.

Recruitment is said to be well underway for 75 new jobs in hospitality, business admin, sports and catering.

And today, club bosses have announced it will open in December, with an exact date yet to be determined and expected to be revealed a few weeks before.

They say it has already seen “high interest”, with early membership available online and a new marketing suite set to open on site.

Here, the firm says, people can quiz the team about membership options and view a virtual tour.

New images shared last month as part of the 360-degree virtual tour revealed what is in store for those signing up.

The pictures show the club’s indoor and outdoor pools, tennis and padel courts, 100-station gym, and its spa retreat.

But use of the facilities comes with an eye-watering monthly fee of £154 – which is likely to rise further when an “introductory rate” ends.

For children, David Lloyd will offer after-school and holiday clubs, as well as swimming and tennis coaching, a creche, DL Kids classes, and group ‘Rebels’ classes where children can exercise together with their family.

There will also be a stylish clubroom serving nutritious food and drink with an adults-only business lounge and separate soft play and family zone.

David Lloyd Herne Bay’s general manager Mike van Heerden said: “It has been fantastic to see such excitement and anticipation for the new David Lloyd Club among the Herne Bay community.

“We have also been making great progress in recruitment for local talent, with opportunities still available for those looking to be a part of this exciting new club.

“We hope local people enjoy visiting our marketing suite over the coming months, and to sharing our new club with members in December.”
