Ithaca-based company wins “Technology Business of the Year” award for calcium chewable

  • August 29, 2025

ITHACA, N.Y. (WBNG) — Seen Nutrition was started by two women, Dr. Jennifer Han and Adrienne Bitar, each has a personal experience with low calcium and osteoporosis; Han’s own diagnosis at 37 and Bitar’s experience with her mother, who also has it.

Their company, Seen Nutrition, is challenging traditional thinking that bone losing density and strength are just something that happens and can not be properly remedied.

“We just accepted as a family that mom had bad bones, and now in hindsight that seems both short-sighted and ignorant,” said Bitar. “When Jenny and I came together and joined forces, I learned the bones are an active, living part of our body, not just something that deteriorates over time, but rather something that can be constantly remodeled.”

Working together, the two developed a calcium chewable. Each chewable contains 500 mg of dietary calcium made from locally sourced dairy, mushrooms and almonds.

“We say you get the goodness of milk without the fat and the lactose,” Han told 12 News.

On Thursday, they received the award for technology business of the year, presented by the New York Small Business Development Centers. Their formulation specifically addresses the critical calcium needs of women undergoing menopause, though its benefits extend to anyone seeking to enhance their calcium intake with a superior product.

“We only formed our business two years ago, and it’s amazing to just kind of take a pause and see how far we’ve come in those two years,” said Han. “Now they’re finding something they enjoy that they can commit to for their whole lives.”

Dr. Han and Bitar said that they feel immense pride in the award that they received today. They’re happy to share that they have reached customers in all 50 states with their new product, the calcium chew, and they hope to expand their business across the rest of the country and the world to help as many women as possible suffering from low calcium and osteoporosis.
