Emmerdale spoilers follow for Friday’s episode (18 July), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.

Emmerdale has aired another shocking death as secret villain John Sugden commits his next evil act to cover his tracks.

Nate’s funeral sparked more tension between Cain and Tracy this week, but the pair eventually stopped blaming one another for his death. They decided to team up and solve the murder – with John worried that he will be caught.

John’s concerns continued in today’s episode, when he overheard new allies Cain and Tracy discussing their plan of action.

He offered to help them find Nate’s murderer, but Cain refused, insisting that they were going to carry out their investigation alone.

John made another call to the helpline, saying that he felt that everything was spiralling out of control, but he was interrupted by Liam.

Liam described a patient who was struggling and had resorted to drugs and alcohol – and John quickly discovered that he was talking about Owen, the man who spiked Robert.

John spotted that Owen was on his call out list for the day, so made his way to the house visit, but no one answered the door.

He made his way inside and was shocked to discover Owen lying unconscious on the sofa, surrounded by bottles.

While John initially rushed to call an ambulance and save Owen’s life, he changed his mind and put the phone away, hatching a sinister plan.

He was disturbed when Liam arrived to check on Owen, but John managed to lock the door in time to stop him coming in.

Having escaped being caught, John typed out a note on Owen’s laptop, before removing all evidence that he had been at the house.

Back at the surgery, John told Liam that he visited Owen, but he wasn’t home, and concerned Liam pledged to visit him again in the morning.

In next week’s scenes, it will be revealed that John has framed Owen for Nate’s death, having written a suicide note from Owen, where he confesses to the crime.

But will John get away with this, or will someone get suspicious of his latest move?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
