BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Montague Street transformed into an outdoor wellness spa during Sunday’s car-free Open Streets event, which included Pilates, cardio and fitness classes, plus acupuncture, a hydration station, gluten-free goodies and more.
Yoga enthusiasts stretched out on their exercise pads right in the middle of the street for classes offered by GTHR Yoga and Heatwise Yoga. (With a high of 84 degrees, all the midday yoga classes turned into “hot yoga,” intentional or not.)

Wundabar Pilates offered Pilates classes and afterward ran a plank contest. Two brothers, hoping to win a pair of socks for their mom, tried to beat the 12-minute record a previous contestant had logged.
Monica Meneses relaxed in a lounge chair with her legs sheathed in air compression pads, holding her pup Shakespeare (a chihuahua mix) on her lap. Meneses said she was enjoying the free, 15-minute lymphatic pressure massage offered by Recoverie. “It feels relaxing,” she said. “It’s pressure but it’s very soft — and it’s a nice, breezy day.”

Other activities were offered by Orangetheory Brooklyn Heights, SLT, Oula, Good Day Pilates, Creative Dentistry, Tee Acupuncture and more. A Blessing of the Animals took place in front of St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church.
Montague Open Streets is presented by the street’s merchants and the Montague Street Business Improvement District in collaboration with the Brooklyn Heights Association and the New York City Department of Transportation.
