Aktiv’s closure follows a recent product launch and caps a turbulent period marked by macroeconomic pressures. Core Health & Fitness has tapped Aktiv founder Bryan Green to advise during the transition

Core Health & Fitness has acquired the assets of Aktiv Solutions, the California-based functional fitness design and equipment provider, after Aktiv was foreclosed on by its private equity backer Gaston Capital Partners.

Core Health & Fitness, a commercial fitness equipment provider, plans to work with Aktiv founder Bryan Green as a strategic advisor through the transition, Green confirmed to Athletech News.

Notices are in process to customers and creditors. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition marks the end of Aktiv’s nearly 15-year run as a key player in shaping modern training environments across gyms, hotels and corporate wellness spaces. The company also served as a major U.S. distributor for brands including Core Health & Fitness and Freemotion Fitness.

Aktiv began expanding rapidly in 2016 but faced mounting operational pressures in recent months. People familiar with the matter said leadership had attempted to restructure, but Gaston ultimately moved to foreclose amid persistent macroeconomic headwinds, including tariff-related costs and broader market uncertainty.

Earlier this year, Aktiv introduced the BASE, a lightweight training platform designed to support a range of strength and functional movements. Marketed as a solution to common gym-floor challenges, the product featured ergonomic zones for glute bridges, step-ups and hip thrusts, movements that have grown in popularity alongside the rise of load-based training. The launch underscored the company’s ongoing effort to adapt to shifting consumer preferences even as operational and market pressures began to mount.

Aktiv had also announced a strategic partnership with cardio equipment maker Assault Fitness to offer expanded facility planning services.

“Bryan has always been a force of vision—someone who’s helped push the industry forward in all of his ventures,” Aktiv Solutions former managing director Rob Newkirk said. “While this chapter ends, the principles and values he championed will continue to inspire the way great facilities approach movement-based programming.”

While Aktiv’s operations have come to an end, its influence lives on through the significant imprint it left on the industry. Its modular systems, facility layouts and consultative approach helped define a category that has grown increasingly central to fitness, hospitality and mixed-use development.
