A new hybrid fitness race is shaking up Ireland’s fitness scene, encouraging people of all fitness levels to push past their limits.
Tryka is an Irish-founded race league for all levels — from first-timers to elite athletes – which offers an inclusive and accessible alternative to global events such as Hyrox.
This fast-growing event mixes strength, endurance, and community in one high-energy race, bringing something fresh to those chasing a new challenge or just wanting to experience the buzz of a live competition.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new race.
TRYKA is the newest race to be introduced to the world of hybrid racing – think Ireland’s answer to Hyrox.
The race consists of running intervals with functional fitness stations, combining cardio and functional strength.
Created with a strong focus on accessibility and community, Tryka brings people together for one shared goal: to push limits while also having fun.
With plans to expand across Europe, Tryka is becoming the name to know in the hybrid fitness world.
Tryka is open to everyone, from beginners to seasoned athletes, and events will take place across Ireland.
Tryka’s race divisions make it accessible to all fitness levels, whether you’re a first-time participant curious about functional training or an experienced athlete.
The open division is perfect for those looking for an introduction to TRYKA, while the pro division suits those looking to take part with heavier weights and a tougher competition. The relay division lets teams of two or four share the load by splitting the stations.
Beginners also have the option to try out the Tryka 500 with shorter 500m run intervals.
Tryka also has multiple age groups spanning from 18 to 75 and over, ensuring fair competition and recognition across all levels.
Age groups are configured in brackets (18 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, and so on for solo divisions. For doubles, the age groups go in 10-year brackets (30 to 39, 40 to 49 and so on) to ensure fair competition.
The inaugural TRYKA event took place at the RDS in Dublin on October 11 and October 12 and more events are to follow for the 2025-2026 TRYKA season.
Founder of Tryka, Brian Lee, the creator of Freshly Chopped, said: “We created Tryka to offer something fresh, inclusive, and proudly Irish. We’re building a new community that welcomes everyone, whether you’re just starting your fitness journey or you’re a seasoned athlete.
“After competing in Hyrox events across Europe, I saw a real gap in the market here.
Many people love the idea of hybrid fitness racing, but feel it’s out of reach — too intense, too exclusive or just not for them. Tryka is designed to change that and bring fitness racing to the wider public.
“We wanted to build a league that puts community first — where everyday gym-goers, beginners and corporate teams can come together, challenge themselves and have fun in a supportive atmosphere. This is about more than just competition, it’s about building connections, boosting confidence and creating something positive across Ireland.”
A full Tryka race features eight stations with running intervals between each one.
The open division with 800m runs is suitable for all fitness levels and is a good starting point for those entering their first hybrid race.
The pro division is a faster competition which uses heavier weights and is designed for experienced athletes.
The relay division allows teams of two or four to share the workload during the race by splitting the stations.
The beginner race which features 500m runs is exclusive to Tryka and is designed for newcomers to hybrid training.
Each race consists of eight stations. Here’s what stations to expect in each race.

The first-ever Tryka event was held at the RDS in Dublin on October 11 and October 12. More events are to follow, including the second-ever Tryka race on January 21 and February 1.
Tryka’s 12-month league season will run from October 2025 through October 2026, and the season’s grand finale will be held in the Algarve in Portugal, where athletes from every division will come together for a final showdown.
