Hollyoaks has shared an exciting update on James Nightingale ahead of Christmas. The character recently returned from the dead – and fans will be delighted to hear that a reunion with husband Ste Hay is confirmed for this festive season.

The storyline was unveiled on Hollyoaks Unwrapped, which has been teasing clues about a Christmas plot, with actor Gregory Finnegan sharing a teaser in a video message.

“This Christmas, James will return to Hollyoaks village to be reunited with Ste,” he told fans. “But what will Ste decide?”

Show host Kieron Richardson, who plays Ste, then teased: “Finally after the 30th anniversary episodes, James has finally decided he wants to be reunited with Ste, who’s quite busy at the minute!”

Next week’s special episodes will each focus on four village families during the course of Christmas Day, including the Lomaxes. As events unfold, Leela extends an olive branch to Ste while trying to give her children the best day possible.

James recently returned to the village after being presumed dead, and engaged in a tense conversation with Peri as she tried to get him to see how much Ste needs him.

Teasing a possible Ste reunion at the time, Gregory told Digital Spy: “Certainly from what I understand, there are obviously feelings there. I think whatever took him away, why ever he did the things that he did, there were reasons.

“So I don’t think he left voluntarily. I’m excited to find out what those reasons were, because I think they’ve been fleshed out a little bit. I think I have an understanding and the fans will see soon.”

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
