A 99-year-old Palmyra resident has been named a finalist for the 2025 SilverSneakers Member of the Year Award.
The award, according to a release, is “a national honor celebrating seniors who exemplify healthy, active living.”
Gerald Leinbach of Palmyra is one of nine contenders for recognition. He is vying with three other finalists, ranging in age from 78 to 92, for the activity award, and there are five finalists, ages 66 to 93, for the inspiration award.
“At age 99, Gerald embodies the spirit of your community and sets an extraordinary example to seniors nationwide,” spokeswoman Lily Grace Thome said in an email to LebTown. “This national recognition highlights his inspiring dedication to health, wellness and active living.”
Leinbach is a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. According to the release, he keeps active through yoga classes, yard work and gardening.
He is looking forward to his 100th birthday in January.
Winners of the SilverSneakers awards will be determined by popular vote. Votes can be cast daily for Leinbach online from Aug. 1 through 11.
SilverSneakers is an online and in-person fitness program for seniors.
