ClassPass, a subscription service that offers a slew of discounted fitness classes, is expanding into the world of entertainment.

Starting on Tuesday, members will be able to redeem credits for movie tickets at AMC Theatres. Users can book a standard 2D movie ticket at participating AMC locations through the ClassPass app. The offering is only available for now in select states, including California, Florida, Texas and Arizona — though the company has ambitions to broaden its footprint in the future.

“Adding AMC Theatres to ClassPass reflects our commitment to offering the highest quality lifestyle and wellness experiences to our members,” said Fritz Lanman, CEO of Playlist. “Every consumer defines wellness differently, and our mission is to provide a broad range of options that meet those needs. We’re building a platform that not only gives people flexible access to the experiences they love, but also serves as a marketplace solution for underutilized inventory, from yoga mats to movie tickets.”

Founded in 2013, ClassPass is a monthly subscription service that allows users to book a range of fitness glasses, gyms, salons and spas (and, now, movie theater showtimes) rather than paying for individual memberships at different studios. Plans in major cities, like New York City and Los Angeles, range from $19 to $159 per month. The number of credits needed for various classes or services depends on factors such as popularity, time of day or location. It’s not clear how many points are needed to go to the movies, though ClassPass will offer bundles that include popcorn and drinks.

AMC Theatres, the world’s largest cinema chain, has been hustling to stay afloat amid the residual effects of the pandemic and Hollywood strikes. The company recently announced that movies tickets will be 50% off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for AMC Stubs rewards program. Since the onset of COVID, AMC also invested in a Nevada-based gold and silver mining company, started selling popcorn in shopping malls and launched a branded credit card.
