Police were called to reports of a break-in at Discount Supplements in Hull on Sunday

The manager of an independent sports nutrition company said stock worth at least £55,000 was stolen during a break-in.

Joe Stevenson, from Discount Supplements, on Clay Street, Hull, said large quantities of XL Nutrition Whey protein – used for post-workout recovery and muscle growth – was among several products taken during the raid on Sunday morning.

He said: “It was sickening seeing the CCTV and the casual attitude of them just walking round the warehouse and taking whatever they wanted.”

A Humberside Police spokesperson confirmed officers were investigating.

Joe Stevenson said “pallets of products” were stolen from his company’s warehouse

Mr Stevenson said a colleague discovered the break-in after going to collect some pallets.

As well as whey protein, a number of other powders and capsules were stolen, he said.

Mr Stevenson added: “It’s a crying shame because we’ve been struggling anyway. We’ve had a tough couple of years because everyone is feeling the pinch.”

In response to the burglary, Mr Stevenson said the firm was considering installing additional CCTV.

A police spokesperson said: “It is reported forced entry was made into the premises, allegedly causing damage to the exterior of the building and items are also believed to have been stolen.”
