A new gym coming to Grover Beach lets people work out at any hour of the day.

All that’s required is a membership and a quick scan of a phone or key fob to enter into the 6,000-square-foot facility — no matter if it’s 3 a.m., 3 p.m., or any hour in between.

That’s the concept behind the new Anytime Fitness opening its doors at 1400-1410 West Grand Ave. by the end of the year.

Any members ranging from fitness junkies to casual gym-goers can get their workout fix in 24/7, Dan Sussman, the CEO of DDK Fitness Holdings, told The Tribune.

“You can come in literally any time, any day, even on Christmas Day at midnight,” he said.

His company owns the rights to 20 Anytime Fitness gyms across the Western United States. After opening a successful location in Orcutt, Sussman said he was searching for another facility in Santa Maria or San Luis Obispo when he found the Grover Beach site.

Anytime Fitness also has SLO County locations in Morro Bay and Nipomo.

“Grover Beach is an up-and-coming area with a lot of growth and a huge potential for a gym like ours to be the gym of the community, so we couldn’t be more excited,” he said.

DDK Fitness Holdings signed a lease on the location last October. Since then, the former office complex has been transformed into a wide-open fitness facility.

The space has entered the final construction phase and should be ready for new members by Dec. 31, Sussman said.

David Gieselman New SLO County gym open 24/7 will have fitness equipment, saunas

The Grover Beach Anytime Fitness will have a wide variety of workout equipment, two infrared saunas and private restrooms and showers.

The gym will also have personal trainers on site who can facilitate 50-minute one-on-one fitness sessions.

Sussman said the site will likely be staffed from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. Around five or six employees will be hired to work at the location, he told The Tribune.

“We really pride ourselves in being a very clean, more family-style gym,” Sussman said. “So it’s not like your big box gym where there’s thousands of members and people come in and out and no one knows your name.”

The fitness facility has a capacity of up to 50 gym-goers, though typically only 10 to 20 people use it at a time due to its flexible open hours, Sussman said.

“We don’t get crowded,” he added. “We’re completely different than your large low-price gyms.”

Membership fees range from $60 to $80 per month depending on the offer. That higher price keeps it less crowded and more clean, Sussman said.

Anytime Fitness will also have a meter on Google that shows how many people are in the gym at once, so members can time their workouts to the crowd level if they please.

And if members are traveling out of town, their gym membership will still work at any of the 6,000-plus Anytime Fitness locations across seven continents — even the one on Antarctica, Sussman said.
