There was great celebration in Valentia Nursing Home in Camolin last week as friends and families gathered around to celebrate a milestone birthday of one of their residents.

Carmel Carroll, who was born in Dublin and lived there until nine years ago before she came to live with her nieces Jacinta and Edel in Gorey, has been a resident in Valentia Nursing Home since Monday, March 31.
Carmel celebrated her 102nd Birthday with a special tea Party, surrounded by family, friends and her special friends from St. Aidans Day Care, Elderflower Unit, Gorey. The tea with a special cake was enjoyed by all while Carmel also received her commemorative medal from the President Michael D Higgins.

According to her nieces Edel and Jacinta, Carmel believes her secret to a long life and happiness is regular exercise, good food and keeping the mind active. A such, she spends a great time knitting and up to recently did puzzles. She also loves the cooking programmes on the TV.
Faith has also played a very important part in her life and she has consistently had a great sense of humour.
