SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Deputies in South Lake Tahoe had an unexpected early-morning encounter Sunday, Aug. 17, when a large bear decided to try its paw at customer service.
The bear was spotted behind the counter at the Ice Cream Shop at Camp Richardson, reportedly showing a strong preference for strawberry ice cream. After some polite coaxing, the bear wandered off—presumably still craving a cone.
Authorities said the bear, nicknamed “Fuzzy” by staff, caused little to no damage and left cleanup to a minimum. No humans were injured, and no ice cream cones were harmed.
Officials reminded residents that while wildlife sightings can be exciting, bears are not ideal customers and should not be tempted with sweet treats.
