BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. – A new fitness facility aims to bring a “better gym experience” to the Lehigh Valley.

Asylum Fitness, offering a wide array of cardio and strength training equipment along with personal training and group fitness classes, is planning to open 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 2920 Easton Avenue, Suite 5, in Bethlehem Township, Northampton County, general manager Coty Moyer said.

The Shops at Bethlehem space was previously occupied by a Maxx Fitness location, which closed last year.

Asylum Fitness will feature all new equipment, including top-of-the-line treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, stationary bikes and strength machines, along with free weights and functional training equipment such as battle ropes, medicine balls, resistance bands and push-pull sleds.

Wednesday will be a soft opening, with exterior signage and more fitness equipment set to be installed in the coming weeks.

“We want to cater to the members,” a message on the gym’s Facebook page reads.

“We don’t want to overfill with machines that become placeholders and coat racks. Please fill a suggestion when you stop in so we can really understand how to continue stocking this gym with equipment you WANT AND NEED!”

The new gym also will feature upgraded locker rooms, childcare services and a designated room for Zumba and other group fitness classes.

“We’re passionate gym-goers who understand what you’re looking for,” a message on the gym’s website reads. “Whether you’re a serious lifter, in the military, a first responder professional, or simply seeking functional and fun fitness, we’ve got the equipment, trainers, and coaching to support your goals.”

Asylum Fitness will operate 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

It will offer monthly memberships, with no long-term contracts, no enrollment fees and no annual fees, Moyer said.

Membership plans and pricing will be posted Wednesday on the gym’s website, AsylumFitnessLV.com, Moyer said.

Discounts will be extended to military members and first responders, Moyer added.

“Commitment should be to yourself — not to your gym,” a message on Asylum Fitness’ website reads. “That’s why we offer the freedom and flexibility to fit your lifestyle. Enjoy simple billing every month with no long-term contracts, or just pay per visit when you’re in town.”

Individuals will be able to choose the features that fit their goals, with options to purchase training, coaching and classes a la carte.

The Shops at Bethlehem is in a fast-growing area, on the border of Bethlehem and Bethlehem Township, with new and under-development apartment complexes.

The Giant-anchored shopping center is home to more than a dozen other tenants, including Petco, Vic’s Bagels, Poke Bar 25 and Dave’s Home Furnishing.

Spice Crust Pizzeria, offering made-to-order pizza, burgers, cheesesteaks and other dishes, opened in April.
