Lime Kiln Leisure Centre gym, squash courts and group exercise studio all closed for refurbishment at the end of October 2025
Gym goers were advised by staff to use other nearby leisure centres during this time including Swindon’s Link Centre (12 minutes away), Ridgeway Leisure Centre (15 minutes away) and the Wiltshire Council-run Calne Leisure Centre, a 30-minute drive away.
Now, work on the gym improvements has nearly finished and an official reopening date has finally been set.
Lime Kiln Leisure Centre gym will be back open to the public on Monday, December 15.
According to Wiltshire Council, the major refurbishment has created “a modern, accessible, and dynamic fitness space for the Royal Wootton Bassett community.”

The new gym now features a reconfigured fitness layout designed to maximise space and improve flow, new flooring and full redecoration.
There is a new dedicated functional fitness area with kettlebells, slam balls, medicine balls, battle ropes, and TRX equipment, as well as an expanded free-weight zone with a squat rack, Smith machine, and bench press
Brand-new cardio and strength equipment has also been supplied by Pulse Fitness, and air conditioning has been upgraded.
“We’re thrilled to reopen the Lime Kiln gym just in time for Christmas, giving people the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the fantastic new facilities,” said Councillor Mel Jacob, cabinet member for communities, engagement and corporate services.
“This investment reflects our commitment to promoting healthier lives as part of Our Wiltshire Plan – helping people stay mentally and physically well by connecting them with their communities, including through our leisure centres.
“We thank our members for their patience during the closure and can’t wait to welcome everyone back to a space that’s modernised, better, and designed for all fitness levels.”

The latest improvements at Lime Kiln Leisure Centre follow previous upgrades to the swimming pool, changing rooms, and fitness studio, which took place in 2024.
Changing rooms were fully refurbished, new showers added and the swimming hall flooring upgraded.
The 2024 upgrade came after complaints that the site’s changing room facilities and lockers were “smashed and broken”- now residents say the site is “much improved.”
Responding to concerns raised online over membership during the latest closure period, Wiltshire Council has confirmed that all regular Lime Kiln gym users have been compensated with a reduction in their November and December direct debit payments.
