MIDDLETOWN/PORT JERVIS – State Senator James Skoufis and city officials from Middletown and Port Jervis held ribbon cuttings on Monday for new outdoor fitness courts.
Each was paid for through a $250,000 state grant secured by Skoufis as well as funding from MVP Health Care and National Fitness Campaign.
The senator said now more than ever six years after being cooped up indoors during the pandemic, it is important for people to exercise and enjoy recreation, particularly outdoors.
“Not everyone can get to a gym, not everyone can pay for a membership, not everyone wants to be indoors when being physically fit,” he said. “These spaces have really become important community spaces. They are free. They are open to the public.”
The fitness courts let adults of all abilities ages 14 and older to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.
