Blue Demons National League basketball player Scott Hannigan has an extremely busy life on and off the court.

On the court, the 25 year-old trains every morning, getting some shots up to keep his eye in, and then he trains with his club three times a week.

Then he goes to work at JC Fittness, which is based in Churchfield Business Park, where he does strength and conditioning and personal training for all his clients, so his workload and basketball activities are keeping him very busy.

Scott is better known for being part of the double act with his twin brother James that won a National League and cup in the last two years with the Sunday’s Well club, however, he is now making a name for himself as a excellent and in demand personal trainer.

Hannigan always had a general interest in physical health in order to help him perform on the basketball court, and he understands it’s extremely important to live a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally.

Something he tells his clients all the time.

He began his journey by going to the gym with his cousin Alan Cooper at Method Fitness based in Blackpool when he was 16 years-old, however, he soon picked up the bug and became a personal trainer four years later.

The transformation in Hannigan’s physique is truly amazing, as he is gone from a skinny 16 year-old kid to an absolutely ripped beast of an athlete.

“I first started to go to the gym as a 16 year-old when my cousin Alan persuaded me to come along with him,” Scott said.

“At first I thought it might help me with the physical side of basketball because everyone was telling me I need to get stronger.

“I soon found it very interesting and rewarding, so I took the next step and got a personal trainer to help me.

“Fast forward four years, I then joined Image Fitness which is a personal training college in Bishopstown and completed a 12 week course.

“The course was very intense, however, I really enjoyed the experience and I can definitely say it was the best decision of my life.

“Soon after I was asked to do some personal training work for Method Fitness Gym.

“After a few months when I became more confident and comfortable around clients I asked the owner if I could rent the gym so I could try get some clients of my own.

“I started out with my mother Sharon and my friends and got my name out there by word of mouth to be honest.

“My business then started to grow and people from all walks of life began to contact me.

“The lads from all the different basketball clubs then started to hit me up to see if I could help them and it’s only when I started to work with them that I got to really know them and the rivalry on the court was left on the court as we also became good friends.

“Then two years ago one of my good friends Jamie Beadle, who I played underage at with Neptune gave me a call to ask me if I would join him at his own gym JC Fitness in Churchfield.

“I really didn’t have to think twice about it to be honest, because it gave me a chance to build up my business.

“It was the perfect opportunity for me to be honest and it gave me a lot more freedom in the gym, so I could facilitate more clients and it also gave me a chance to work along side a good friend.

“I am extremely lucky that I’m very busy in the gym every day and I get a great satisfaction when I see the transformation with my clients.

“I keep everything simple with them at the start of their journey and I leave their bodies them what they need, not what I want them to do.

“I keep explaining to them that they need to have patience with the results, because it doesn’t happen overnight.

“I am currently working with the senior players at Blue Demons and I also work with St Vincent’s ladies, St Mary’s underage players and Castleview senior players.

“With my time now limited in the gym I am now trying to build up my online business.

“It gives clients a chance to work at home instead of physically attending the gym and gives them a chance to build up confidence to work out in public,” Hannigan added.
