After years of making it effortless to order anything from burgers to biryanis, Zomato is now turning its focus to what really matters – helping users eat better. The company has launched “Healthy Mode”, a new feature designed to guide people toward genuinely nourishing food options.
“For years, there’s been something about Zomato that made me uneasy,” wrote CEO Deepinder Goyal in a candid LinkedIn post.
“We made eating out and ordering in easier than ever, but we never really helped people truly eat better,” he added.
Moving Beyond Calories
At the heart of the new feature is a Healthy Score, rated from Low to Super, which evaluates dishes based on protein, complex carbs, fibre, and micronutrients – not just calories. Each listing comes with a clear explanation of what makes it healthy and why, allowing users to make informed choices without decoding nutrition charts.
“Behind the scenes it’s AI and restaurant data doing the heavy lifting,” Goyal said.
He added that the bar is set high enough that professional athletes can rely on Healthy Mode to find food that works for them.
A Step Toward Zomato’s True Mission
Goyal admitted the move was driven by reflection: “I’ve carried the guilt that Zomato made it easy to eat whatever you craved, but not easy to eat what your body needed.”
With the new feature now live in Gurgaon and plans to expand soon, Zomato is inviting users to test and critique it: “Try it, tear it apart, tell us where it fails.”
Healthy Mode represents more than just a new app filter—it’s Zomato’s first tangible step toward aligning its platform with its mission of delivering better food for more people.
By combining data, AI, and nutritional science, Deepinder Goyal’s Zomato aims to make healthy eating not just possible, but practical.
