Launched on October 18, Freaky Fries World has officially entered the chat, and Adelaide’s festival fry game will never be the same.
The creation of local food personality Freaky Feeds (Brenda Loveday) and burger royalty Gang Gang, Freaky Fries is a crispy, saucy, over-the-top celebration of everything we love about festival food, with one key difference – every fry on the menu is 100% gluten-free.
Make no mistake, the fries are the main event here. “The main b***h, not the side piece,” as Freaky Feeds herself put it. The result of her “mind-altering” loaded fry experience during travels through Europe.
“I remember thinking Adelaide needs a food stall where fries are the main b***h, not the side piece — and now here we are,” she shared to Instagram.
And so Freaky Fries was born. Each golden freaky fry is coated (and we mean coated) in toppings that’ll send your tastebuds into overdrive. The CheeseFest debut included a special four-cheese combo with pickled jalapenos and freaky special salt (named ‘Cacio e Pepe‘ – yes, like the famous Kris Jenner pasta) as well as things like white sauce, lashings of parmesan, American blend house cheeses, shaved ham, and even deep-fried katsu chicken. The event saw crowds queueing for a taste, and it’s easy to see why.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have doubts stepping into another food venture, especially so soon after a challenging and controversial chapter of my life,” Freaky Feeds shared.
“But after seeing the turnout, the smiles and the fact we sold out both days, all that fear faded. It turned out exactly how it was meant to.”
The partnership is with perhaps the biggest festival fiends of them all, Gang Gang. Led by Nina and Morgen (and known for its mouthwatering Cali Love Cheeseburger, Cardi B Signature Chicken Burger and Spice Girl Asian-Inspired Cheeseburger), the truck has long been a staple in Adelaide’s pop-up scene. With 99 Gang Social on Hindley Street set to close next month, the crew is returning to its festival roots – and Freaky Fries fits perfectly into that next chapter.
So here it is. Freaky Fries World. The headline act. Saucy, unashamedly over-the-top, and the perfect post-spritz stomach settler or treat night indulgence.
