Canada issued a recall for Kirkland Signature Women 50+ vitamins on May 21 because they may contain metal fragments

Canada has issued a health recall for a women’s vitamin sold primarily at Costco.
On May 21, Canada’s primary health agency announced a recall of Kirkland Signature Women 50+ vitamins as they may contain metal fragments.
The affected product is in tablet form and has a lot number of “5J46568W7,” according to Canadian health officials. They come in a white pill bottle with the words “Kirkland Signature” at the top and “Women 50+ Femmes” in the center with purple labeling.
The vitamins were made by Vita Health Products Inc., which is located in Winnipeg, Canada.

According to Health Canada, customers should verify if their product is affected, and if it is, discontinue use.
The health agency noted that customers should consult a healthcare provider before discontinuing personal use of the affected product. They also asked customers to report any “side effects” to the health agency.
The recall was classified as a Type II recall, which means the product can “cause temporary adverse health consequences,” but the “probability of serious health consequences” is very low.
According to the Mayo Clinic, if a person swallows a foreign object, it will usually pass through their system “without issues.” However, in some cases, people can experience pain from the throat down the middle of the chest or regurgitation.
Kirkland is Costco’s exclusive private label, and vitamins under this brand are primarily sold at Costco warehouses and on its website, though they can also be found on Amazon, eBay, and other online retail websites.

The recall comes over a week after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Straus Family Creamery ice cream had also recalled some of its products due to the potential presence of metal foreign material.
The company said the impacted products, which include vanilla, strawberry, mint chip, cookie dough, Dutch chocolate and strawberry quart flavors, were distributed to retailers in 17 states and had been on shelves since May 4.
