Jeevanaa launches melatonin-free gummies to support mood and sleep

London-based wellness brand Jeevanaa announced the launch of its Deep Sleep and Deep Calm gummies. The new dietary supplement blends the tradition of herbal medicine with scientific research in jumbo-sized gummies designed to feel like a treat.

Both formulations are melatonin-free and include magnesium bisglycinate and L-theanine along with other botanicals, while the calm formulation also includes KSM-66 ashwagandha.

The brand used AI to develop the formula via RLHF – reinforcement learning from human feedback. AI suggested formulations based on scientific research, which experts then confirmed. The formulators prioritized finding an alternative to melatonin because of current melatonin skepticism.

“We are blending Ayurveda with modern science,” said Fawaz Khan, founder of Jeevanaa. “If I can’t prove this is scientifically backed, I’ve failed in my mission.”

Jeevanaa is based on the Sanskrit word Jeevan, which means “life,” according to the website.

The gummy is just the start, as Jeevanaa is looking to branch into other delivery formats, Khan shared. Additionally, Jeevanaa plans to expand outside the UK into the United States, actively seeking suppliers to support local businesses.

Clinical currents and science news

Xylanase – an enzyme that breaks down large xylan fibers into smaller prebiotic xylooligosaccharides (XOS) —  may help consumers get more benefits from the fiber they are consuming. Researchers demonstrated via simulated human digestion models that a xylanase-rich preparation from Trichoderma logibrachiatum could increase XOS and xylose production from wheat bran and some other xylan-rich substrates.

“Most people want to eat healthier, but it’s not always easy to get enough fiber — especially around the holidays,” said Jim Farmar, Ph.D., principal scientist at BIO-CAT Enzymes, the study’s sponsor, in a press release. “This research shows that we may be able to make the fiber people already eat more beneficial for both the microbiome and for their health.”

Researchers have shown microbial fermentation of whey protein yields peptides that lower blood pressure. The study demonstrated coupling proteinase K with a further microbial fermentation yields hydrolysates with high angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity. Out of all the strains evaluated, fermentation with Streptococcus thermophilus SY-102 resulted in the greatest ACE inhibition.

A review published in Gut Microbes discussed how the gut microbiome might play into food allergies. The authors state that certain biotic species can either help individuals develop a tolerance to certain allergens or may worsen sensitivities. They suggested including external environmental factors, such as diet, in future trials and focusing on better understanding the mechanisms by which immunoglobulins interact with the gut microbiome.
