Another classic horror is getting a new version. This time around, we’re going back to Amityville.
Deadline reports that the Divide/Conquer and BoulderLight Pictures, the teams behind Heart Eyes and Barbarian, respectively, will be working on the film.
The outlet states that this film won’t be a remake of 1979’s The Amityville Horror or any of its sequels, or even the 1977 book of the same name.
Instead, it’s going to be a “radical” new interpretation that goes all the way back to the real-life stories of supposed paranormal activity that served as the inspiration for the original book.
The fact that it’s a new take is a reason to be excited, as is the fact that Heart Eyes and Barbarian have respective 78% and 92% positive scores on Rotten Tomatoes from critics.

But the choice of directors is promising, as the two production companies have lined up husband and wife duo Joseph and Vanessa Winter to both helm the film and write.
The duo previously wrote and directed the 2022 found footage horror comedy Deadstream, which also has a 92% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes from critic reviews.

In Digital Spy’s review of Barbarian, we called it “the best horror movie of the year” of its release, stating: “The joy of the movie is how it constantly wrongfoots the audience, delivering audacious swing after swing.”
Meanwhile, IndieWire wrote that Deadstream has “a sharp script brought to life by a fantastic actor, and deliciously gross creature effects”, while RogerEbert.com said that: “It’s hard not to begrudgingly admire a film as committed to its deliriously silly bit.”
The new Amityville film is set to go into production later this year.
