Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle had a public dressing down by Nate’s mother over his actions on the day of Nate’s death.

Cara Robinson returned to the Dales tonight ahead of her late son’s funeral and wasted no time reminding Cain what a bad father he was to Nate and the mistake he made the day he was killed.

With Cain still seen as a suspect in his son’s murder, Nate’s ex-wife Tracy made it clear he and the Dingles were banned from the funeral, leaving them no choice but to arrange their own memorial instead.

Taking place at the Woolpack, in tonight’s episode, the mood started out somber due to a poor turnout and an emotional Cain. But Caleb encouraged his brother to pay proper tribute to the Nate they all knew and loved by toasting him with music and alcohol.

The atmosphere lightened and, as the music and booze flowed, Cara walked in disgusted.

“Having a good knees up are we?” she spat. “And here’s me thinking it will be a sombre affair seeing as we’re burying my son tomorrow.”

Cara revealed she’d arrived early ahead of the funeral and soon learned the real reason why the Dingles were holding a memorial.

Horrified, Cara then confronted Cain. “I know exactly what you did to Nate the last time anyone saw him. Police told me,” she said, referencing Cain beating up Nate on the day he died.

Branding Cain a “violent thug,” she stormed out the pub cursing the day that her son sought out his dad and arrived in the village.

Cara headed to Vanessa’s house to catch up with Tracy ahead of the funeral, who earlier that day received a letter informing her that she was receiving a life insurance pay-out for Nate’s death.

Sam Dingle then arrived at Vanessa’s to find Cara and make her see that Cain was not guilty of killing his own son.

During their conversation, he learned about Tracy’s pay-out. Thinking it suspicious, he reported it back to Cain.

Cain saw red and immediately stormed over to Tracy’s accusing her of killing Nate to get the life insurance money to sort out her financial struggles.

Cara, Tracy and Vanessa were shocked at Cain’s accusation, who added further insult to injury by concluding: “Well I’m coming to the funeral, we all are, whether you like it or not.”

Emmerdale airs these scenes tonight at 7.30pm on ITV1 and the episode is streaming early now on ITVX.
