Hollyoaks has revealed a dark new storyline for Rex Gallagher, as he is involved in an unexpected accident next week. As Ste Hay continues to have reservations about his husband’s clothing, Rex uses the incident to his advantage and goes to great lengths to save his marriage…
“It looked like Ste and Rex had finally turned a corner, when Ste encouraged his partner to wear an outfit he would feel comfortable in at their wedding,” explains our Hollyoaks insider. “The pair ended up getting married without a hitch, but Ste is still wrestling with his own feelings – so Rex makes a risky decision as a result.”

Next week, Rex is starting to explore his identity more openly and bravely decides to wear more feminine clothes to work at the garage. However, Ste is quietly concerned about this.
Leela encourages her brother to be more supportive. Instead, Ste tells Tony about his worries and even suggests that Rex could be experimenting with his clothes as revenge for Ste cheating on him with James.
Ro overhears this and is furious, so wastes no time in confronting Ste about his attitudes. But across the village, Rex finds himself involved in a dramatic event…
“Detective Donny is back on the force and back in action when he spots a suspect on the run in the village – and Rex gets caught in the crossfire and is knocked over outside the garage!” reveals our source. “He is thankfully relatively unharmed aside from a few cuts and bruises, but Rex is about to get another shock.”
Ro arrives at the garage and fills Rex in about what he heard Ste telling Tony. Rex is completely blindsided to learn about Ste’s true feelings, as he thought his husband was more accepting of his style now.

Later, Ste reunites with Rex and is shocked to see the cuts on his face. When asked about his injuries, Rex is quick to explain that it was just an accident and nobody was at fault.
However, Rex rather enjoys seeing how concerned Ste is about him, so he makes a split-second decision and chooses to exaggerate what happened earlier that day.
With Ste believing that Rex was attacked rather than knocked over, he becomes protective of his husband as the week continues. But for how long will Rex keep up this pretence about the incident, and could his marriage be under threat if the truth is exposed?
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
