Home and Away’s Irene Roberts kicks out her lodger Dana Matheson next week – but for a very good reason.
The Diner owner dishes out some tough love when devastated Dana fusses around after learning of her diagnosis.
This week’s episodes see Irene discover that she definitely has Alzheimer’s disease, after seeking help over her recent memory lapses.
John Palmer accompanies his close friend as she receives the news, which she later shares with Leah Patterson too.

In follow-on scenes next week, Marilyn Chambers and Justin Morgan are next to discover what’s going on. Before they have any time to process the news, Irene drops another bombshell…
“Irene lets everyone know that she plans to sell her share of the Diner,” our Home and Away source explains.
“While some of her friends think that it’s far too soon to be making such a life-changing decision, Irene argues that she wants to take control of these choices while she still can.”
It’s emotional for all as the Summer Bay legend works her last shift at the Diner and closes the place up for the final time. Fortunately, she has no plans to keep her distance as she arrives back the very next morning – this time as a paying customer.

Meanwhile, Irene soon realises that she’ll have to tell her housemates Dana and Harper the truth next.
Understandably, the Matheson sisters are both crushed by the news after their happy two years living with Irene. Dana seems particularly affected, as she immediately cancels plans to spend time with her boyfriend Sonny Baldwin.
Dana takes charge at home by making cups of tea, offering diet tips, handing out Omega-3 tablets – and generally not letting Irene have a moment’s peace…
“Irene quickly gets fed up – especially once she knows that Dana is cancelling plans with Sonny to take care of her,” our insider adds.

“After advice from John to put her foot down, she boldly announces that she’s kicking Dana out for 48 hours. It’s for her own good, as Dana needs to concentrate on living her own life to the fullest.”
An overwhelmed Dana bursts into tears and rushes straight into Sonny’s arms. Opening up, she recalls how her own parents were drug addicts, so Irene is the closest thing she’s ever had to a mum.
It’s tough for Dana to think about the possibility of losing Irene at some point in the future, but her honesty brings her much closer to Sonny. In fact, Sonny is so moved by Dana’s words that he decides to call his own mother for a chat…
Home and Away airs these scenes on Monday 25 August, Tuesday 26 August, Wednesday 27 August and Thursday 28 August on Channel 5.
