Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street star Joe Layton has confirmed that he has exited the soap after his final scene aired.
The actor joined the ITV series as the villainous Mick Michaelis back in February, with the character being introduced as a character from Kit Green’s past who had revenge on his mind.
After several months of drama, it was revealed that Mick had been incarcerated for a crime that was committed by Kit, with the police officer also being confirmed as the father of Brody following an affair with Mick’s wife, Lou.
Upon his arrival in Weatherfield, Mick was imprisoned once again after he killed Craig Tinker, with recent scenes seeing him escape from prison. Following a brutal confrontation with Kit, Mick found himself behind bars again.

Though there is scope for Mick to return in the future, the villain won’t be seen on the cobbled streets anytime soon, with Layton confirming that he had filmed his final scenes for the time being.
“I swear to god that better be Mick’s last scene #Corrie,” wrote one viewer on X, to which Layton replied: “Affirmative. [I] loved my time on the cobbles!” The actor was also greeted by several comments from other fans, who praised his performance.
“You were brilliant Joe! Can’t wait to see what’s next #Corrie,” wrote the same fan, with another adding: “You have been phenomenal @jay_layts been proper scary at times, you have portrayed mick so bloody well.”

“So well acted – we loathed Mick from the start. A short sharp shock to the street. Good luck for the future,” commented one other fan, with another writing: “What a brilliantly played character, I hated the character with every bone in my body, well done you.”
Layton’s exit comes before that of his co-star Farrel Hegarty, who plays his on-screen wife Lou. Ahead of her departure, Hegarty said: “Joe and I came in together and will leave together… When I do film my final scenes, I’ll probably cry.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
