Home and Away‘s Lynne McGranger has announced a surprising new project, following her exit from the soap. The actor played Irene Roberts for over 30 years, before leaving Summer Bay last August.

Irene’s exit storyline saw her embarking on a travel adventure, after receiving a heartbreaking Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Now, McGranger is taking on her own daring challenge in the Bahamas as she participates in the reality series Shark!

According to News.com.au, McGranger will be joining five other Australian celebrities who will all be diving into shark-infested waters in the Caribbean in the name of entertainment.

The celebs will swim alongside some of the most terrifying shark species (that we know of), guided by Paul de Gelder, an Australian shark attack survivor and former Navy clearance diver, as well as shark expert and conservationist Annie Guttridge.

Among the cast are Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus, The Block’s Scott Cam, rugby league footballer Sam Thaiday, actor Matt Nable and influencer Tammy Hembrow.

Meanwhile, the underwater line-up will feature the bull shark, the hammerhead and the tiger shark.

Shark! will air on Channel 9 in Australia, with an official air date yet to be announced.

“There’s never been a show like this before. It’s raw, it’s real and it’ll be life-changing!” the broadcaster teased on Instagram.

McGranger also announced the news on Instagram, alongside promotional photos of the upcoming show. One snap saw the six celebrities posing on the beach as they gear up for an adventure of a lifetime.

“If someone had told me I’d be swimming with sharks… I would’ve laughed,” she captioned the post. “But here we are [shark and laughing emoji].”

The comment section was filled with messages of encouragement from fans, all eager to see what she has been up to since leaving Home and Away. How will she fare in her latest challenge?

Home and Away drops new episodes on weekdays at 6am on 5’s streaming service with a 6.30pm screening on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in the UK.

In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7Plus.
