Disha Patani's fitness mantra: Why she swears by mixing MMA with weights Disha Patani has always been one of Bollywood’s most disciplined fitness enthusiasts. Her recently released film Awarapan 2 has hit the theatres on 14 August, in which she can be seen alongside Emraan Hashmi. It has once again put the spotlight on her enviable fitness.Known for her toned frame and effortless flexibility on screen, the actor has never been shy about sharing what goes on behind the scenes to keep her looking camera-ready round the year. Patani in many interviews has opened up about her workout philosophy, and it’s refreshingly simple: weight training, martial arts and a bit of dance, all working together rather than against each other.

Mixing martial arts with weights

In an interaction with Tata Play Fitness, the Baaghi 2 actor Patani revealed that she is a big MMA enthusiast, and according to her, the sport isn’t just about throwing punches or perfecting a kick. “Apart from weight training or gym, I do MMA and dance. There are also a few skills that I want to learn, I feel that, if I’m stronger I can pull them off better and be better at those things,” she shared, tying her strength work directly to her combat training goals.

Kickboxing and gymnastics for that cardio push

Cardio has always been a non-negotiable part of Patani’s routine, and she doesn’t stick to just one form of it. Back in 2018, in a chat with Vogue India, she had revealed that her mornings usually start with cardio, be it dancing, kickboxing or gymnastics, before she moves on to weight training in the evening. This combination keeps her sessions from ever feeling repetitive, something a lot of fitness experts recommend for people who tend to lose motivation doing the same routine day after day.

Dance as a daily dose of movement

For someone as into dance as Patani, staying fit doesn’t always have to feel like a chore. Her love for dance, visible in nearly every dance reel she posts, isn’t just for the camera. It doubles up as one of her go-to cardio formats.Fitness experts often point out that when your downtime already involves moving to music, you’re halfway to a fitter lifestyle without even realising it. Whether it’s picking up a viral Instagram dance trend or signing up for a proper class online, dance ends up being one of the more painless ways to hit that daily movement quota, especially on days when a regular workout feels like too much effort.

Diet, the other half of the equation

Patani has often maintained that fitness for her is a “50-50 split” between the gym and what’s on her plate. She explained that if she has a body-baring shot lined up, her go-to move is to bump up her water intake while cutting back on carbs, keeping things practical rather than extreme. She starts her day with haldi water, an effective step towards wellness. In breakfast the actress keeps it basic, “eggs, breads, rice.”Her approach consists of protein as she mentioned she eats, “any protein sauce, and carbs and some vegetables on the side.”Disha Patani stays fairly consistent: diet and weight training simply have to go hand in hand for one to actually work. She snacks very little, as it disrupts her healthy lifestyle. It’s a fairly straightforward, no-frills approach, built more on consistency than any dramatic diet fad, which perhaps explains why it’s worked for her over the years. At the end of the day, Patani’s routine isn’t about chasing trends or extreme regimens. It’s a mix of strength, sport, movement she genuinely enjoys, and a diet that supports rather than restricts.
