Alan Fletcher, who plays Karl Kennedy, added: “We know how much the audience have loved seeing the residents of Eirini and the great thing, I think, is that it’s given some of Australia’s finest actors an opportunity to appear on screen and for you to get to see their wonderful work.”

Speaking in the emotional farewell video, Vera Punt actor Sally-Anne Upton said: “Having a storyline about the elderly is really important because everybody’s dealing with that with their parents.”

In Wednesday’s episode and the gang’s last ever scene, Vera and Moira’s rivalry over newcomer Monte’s feelings spiralled out of control so Colton was forced to intervene by organising a pottery session.

Vera and Moira had a heart-to-heart and decided that their friendship came first, telling Monte that he would not be romancing either of them, which was good news for him as he was actually interested in Hilary.
