A first proper look at the new Sherlock Holmes series Young Sherlock has been unveiled. Alongside that, we also have a release date to boot.

The Prime Video show focuses on the younger years of the famous detective (played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin), with a new trailer showing him getting up to all sorts of mischief at Oxford.

We also see him cross paths with future nemesis Moriarty (Dónal Finn) while trying on his iconic hat for size. Colin Firth’s character Sir Bucephalus Hodge makes an appearance too.

It has also been confirmed that the show will premiere on 4 March next year – so be sure to add it to your watchlist.

Young Sherlock is directed by Guy Ritchie, who helmed the Sherlock Holmes movies, and is teased to contain the “wit and charm” of his series while being “an explosive re-imagining” of the character.

The series shows the future detective as “a disgraced young man – raw and unfiltered – when he finds himself wrapped up in a murder case that threatens his liberty”.

“His first ever case unravels a globe-trotting conspiracy that changes his life forever,” the synopsis adds. “Unfolding in 1870s Oxford and adventuring abroad, the series will expose the early antics of the anarchic adolescent who is yet to evolve into Baker Street’s most renowned resident.”

The series features 3 Body Problem’s Zine Tseng, The Handmaid’s Tale’s Joseph Fiennes, Halo’s Natascha McElhone and Condor’s Max Irons in supporting roles.

Previously teasing the show, Ritchie said: “In Young Sherlock, we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before.

“We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”

Young Sherlock premieres on Prime Video on 4 March, 2026.
