The “gripping” new detective drama Under Salt Marsh has been given a first look. The series stars Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly and takes place in a fictional Welsh town called Morfa Halen, where the discovery of a child’s body brings up an old cold case.
The newly-released first look images show Reilly in character as detective-turned-teacher Jackie Ellis alongside Rafe Spall as Detective Eric Bull. You can take a look below.
Under Salt Marsh comes from Make Up’s Claire Oakley and takes place as a huge storm gathers, with Jackie discovering the seemingly-drowned body of her eight-year-old pupil Cefin.

This “sends shockwaves” in the community and revives “the ghost of an unsolved cold case that rocked the town three years prior”, namely “the disappearance of Jackie’s niece, Nessa, which cost her career”.
“Cefin’s death summons Jackie’s former partner, Detective Eric Bull, back to Morfa Halen to lead the investigation into a community he failed once before,” the synopsis adds.

The show is further described as “an intimate and cinematic story” that “takes audiences into the heart of a community bound by nature and fractured by an unthinkable crime”.
Under Salt Marsh also stars Chimerica’s Naomi Yang, Slow Horses’ Jonathan Pryce, Treason’s Dinita Gohil, Bad Sisters’ Brian Gleeson, Queenie’s Kimberley Nixon and Industry’s Harry Lawtey.

Speaking previously about the project, Oakley called the series “a crime thriller set in a community deeply connected to its environment, and interwoven with the heartache, fears, dreams and secrets of its people”.
“At the heart of it all is Jackie, a character who embodies the wildness of the place we’re depicting,” she explained. “She’s free-spirited, compassionate, and determined, with a steely resolve that makes her truly of the land. We’re absolutely thrilled to have Kelly Reilly bringing Jackie to life.”
Reilly is perhaps best known for playing Beth Dutton in Yellowstone. She’s also appeared in True Detective and Britannia, while Spall has previously starred in Trying, Black Mirror and The Salisbury Poisonings.
