Vin Diesel has shared an emotional filming update for the next Fast & Furious project as he reunited with Michelle Rodriguez, with the actor paying tribute to his co-star as he spoke about their “unbreakable” bond.

The pair have appeared together in seven features and one short film of the action franchise, with the duo set to reprise their respective roles as Dominic Toretto and Letty Ortiz in the upcoming sequel to 2023’s Fast X.

Back in March, Diesel announced that he would be directing a short film which serves as a prequel to the next main instalment of the series, with the special project being similar in nature to 2009’s Los Bandoleros.

In a post on Instagram on Friday, Diesel seemingly confirmed that work was under way on the currently untitled short film, with the actor being pictured alongside Rodriguez in a heartfelt post.

“Just wrapped an incredible day filming with my ride-or-die about the future of Fast,” began the actor. “After all these years, all these miles, the conversation we had today reminded me why this family means everything.

“She talked about the journey, from those early days when nobody knew if street racing movies would work, through every twist, every loss, every victory we’ve shared together. She’s seen it all.”

Diesel, who also serves as a producer on the series, added that the “connection between the Fast family and fans around the world” had “never wavered” despite the various changes behind the scenes.

“After listening to her, something became crystal clear… she will always be Letty,” he continued in reference to Rodriguez. “That authenticity, that connection to something real, it’s bigger than corporate structures and development cycles. It’s what matters most.

“That bond? That’s unbreakable. That’s what transcends business decisions and bottom lines. For everyone who’s been waiting, for every fan who believes that family is everything, what we’re building next is going to honour everything you love about Fast.”

The actor shared that the new project would take fans to “somewhere [they’ve] never been before”, before concluding: “Because no matter who’s writing the checks, this family answers to you… Stay tuned.🔥#FastFamily #Family #NeverGiveUp.”

While filming on the next main feature – reportedly the final instalment of the series – is yet to get under way, Diesel did confirm earlier this year that Brian O’Connor would appear in the finale.
