Hollyoaks has revealed details of Joel Dexter’s final goodbye, with his alternate exit set to take place very soon – what does the future hold for the beloved character? And how will he cope in prison?
The figure has been incarcerated for the past few months after he believed he was responsible for the murder of Tommy Odenkirk, though it has since become apparent that Jez Blake was the culprit.

Though it was believed that actor Rory Douglas-Speed had departed the Channel 4 soap back in May, the character recently returned for a brief stint as it was revealed that Cleo McQueen was carrying his child.
In Monday’s (29 September) episode, Joel was visited by Dodger Savage and Cleo while in prison, with Dodger later realising that Jez is behind a variety of crimes after Joel shared that he doesn’t remember anything about killing Tommy.

In next week’s scenes, Cleo will visit Joel in prison once again to go over their tricky situation, but Joel delivers a bombshell as he reveals that he’s being transferred to another facility.
Despite the shock of the situation, Cleo admits that it’s probably for the best, though Joel implores her to reach out to Leela before he goes. She lets her know, though Leela confesses to Marie that she can’t face seeing him.
“It looks like this is the end for Joel once again,” says our Hollyoaks insider. “But before he heads far from the village, he wants to say farewell to his wife Leela.
“The pair are no longer together and there’s too much water under the bridge, but can Leela bring herself to visit Joel and finally get closure?”

Douglas-Speed isn’t the only Hollyoaks star to exit the soap, with Lacey Findlow – who plays Dee Dee Hutchinson – confirming earlier this month that her eight-year stint on the series was coming to an end.
“Next week will be the End of My Hollyoaks Era,” they wrote. “What started as a six-month role turned into an unforgettable eight-year journey, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
“Dee Dee Hutchinson, it’s been a joy bringing you to life – from your very first line, ‘more pink’, to your final one, ‘NDA until the episode airs’. Thank you for the laughter, the friendships, the lessons, the encouragement and the overall experience.”
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
