Whether it’s as a criminal in Save Me, a man on the edge in The Virtues, or Jamie’s troubled father in Adolescence, we’ve got very used to seeing Stephen Graham looking rather glum. But in real-life, Stephen is actually a lovely, very smiley bloke… promise. We could do with a reminder of that, though, especially after binge-watching him playing not-very-likeable characters.
Stephen’s appearance at Wimbledon is just the ticket. The Good Boy actor attended the tennis tournament over the weekend and managed to scrub all associations of Stephen with crime, violence and drama out of our minds.
Stephen went along to watch Iga Świątek take on Alexandra Eala and Grigor Dimitrov play against Matteo Berrettini with his son, Alfie Graham, by his side, and was clearly very into the action, having been photographed making various facial expressions of shock and awe. He and 19-year-old model and actor Alfie enjoyed their father-son day out, chatting and smiling between sets.

The actor also happened to be surrounded by celebs in his Wimbledon seat, with Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley sat directly in front and Tom Hiddleston, too. Also in attendance was Sienna Miller, who sat right next to Stephen and struck up a friendship. Sienna and Stephen were seen sharing a giggle and a gossip throughout the tennis.

FYI, the celeb spotting continued all day. Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro took seats in front of Tom Hiddleston, and Tom was also seen saying hello to Emma Corrin. Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You), Anna Wintour, Ambika Mod, Damson Idris, Joel Edgerton, Naomi Ackie and Chioma Nnadi also joined for the day. Evidently, Wimbledon was the place to be this weekend.
We haven’t seen a load of Stephen Graham and son Alfie, but their bond is super strong. Later this year, Stephen Graham will publish Letters To Our Sons, a book featuring fathers ‘from all walks of life’ writing what they wish they could say to their offspring – and Stephen has, of course, included his own letter to his son.

After the huge success of Adolescence, the actor made a point of discussing the power of good fathers. ‘I think, if anything, what we’re trying to say is maybe “Open our bedroom door a little bit more…”,’ said Stephen. ‘I think we’ve created an opportunity for parents to open that door and go into the bedroom and talk to our youth because they’re our future.’
On a red carpet, Stephen added: ‘As fathers, we have an obligation to bring our sons up with a solid moral compass and a definite understanding of self, but also an understanding of everyone else in the world. I think it’s imperative that we try to instil in our children and young boys that it’s important to be the best man you can be.’
