We’re halfway through August now, and May the 4th (Force) is long gone. Luckily, Citizen appears to be operating on the principle that Star Wars Day can be any day, with the release of its new Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master watch.

The AW1910-48W takes Citizen’s light-powered Eco-Drive and gives it the full Jedi treatment. Built into a 43mm polished silver-tone stainless-steel case, the black dial features a silhouette of Luke Skywalker surrounded by sweeping flashes of green, with the Rebel Alliance symbol sitting up at 12 o’clock.

The best bit, though, is lurking over at 11. Luke’s green lightsaber has been worked into the hour marker and, along with the hands and the rest of the markers, suitably glows in the dark. So whether you’re navigating the Death Star or just trying to check the time in the cinema, you won’t be left in the dark.

The Jedi theme continues onto the black leather strap, finished with green stitching and a matching green lining. Flip it over and Citizen has engraved the caseback with one of Luke’s most famous lines: “I am a Jedi, like my father before me.” Subtle, this is not.

There’s plenty of regular watch stuff going on beneath all the Star Wars memorabilia, too. Citizen’s J810 Eco-Drive quartz movement converts light into energy, meaning there’s no need for regular battery changes. A date window sits at 3 o’clock and 100 metres of water resistance means it can handle rather more than sitting on the sofa for a Return of the Jedi rewatch.

Citizen has gone pretty hard on the packaging as well. Each watch arrives in a special Star Wars presentation box carrying the words “May the Force be with you”, alongside a collectible Luke Skywalker enamel pin.

The catch? For now, the Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master AW1910-48W is a US-only affair, priced at $495 – around £370 – and available through Citizen and selected retailers.

Still, if you’ve ever looked down at your watch and thought it could do with considerably more lightsaber, you know what to do.
