Winter, the upcoming drama starring Richard Armitage and Annabel Scholey, has unveiled a first-look image ahead of its premiere on ITV later this year. Featuring an unlikely duo at the centre, this is one you won’t want to miss.
Announced in December, the Bristol-set series sees Armitage portray Dr Ethan Winter, an “unconventional” forensic pathologist who assists the police in solving some of the most “complex” murder cases.
With his work, he teams up with DI Lauren Bell (Scholey), a “meticulous” yet “no-nonsense” detective who matches Ethan’s drive to succeed. Described as a “formidable” team, they complement each other nicely.

The pathologist, however, is harbouring a secret, as he is haunted by the unsolved murder of a person he held dear. While each of the episodes have a self-contained case, this thread will run through the entire series.
Ahead of its premiere on ITV1 and ITVX later this year, the network has released the first image from the police drama, with both Armitage and Scholey looking pensive as they stand in the office.
In addition to Armitage and Scholey, the cast for the six-part series includes Jamie Kenna, Carlotta Banat, Josh Barrow, Adwoa Akoto, Jay Taylor, Rishi Rian, Deirdre Mullins, Ellis Elijah and Evie Coles.
The drama is based on Balthazar, a French series that ran for five seasons before concluding in 2023. Winter is being written by David Allison and Mark Greig, with Dries Vos and Kaat Beels serving as directors.
Speaking upon the project’s announcement, Armitage said: “The team behind Winter are second to none, and the ambition of David Allison’s scripts is very exciting and will attempt to shake up the genre that we’ve grown to love.”
“Ethan Winter is a compelling character treading the line between diligent professional and reckless maverick. He has a painful secret and a fatalistic self-destruct button over which his finger constantly hovers,” added the star, who is known for Red Eye and Missing You.

“I am thrilled to be joining ITV and Eagle Eye Drama as part of the Winter team, and to be working alongside the brilliant Richard Armitage on these fantastic scripts,” added Scholey, who is known for The Split and Rivals.
“Our characters’ tempestuous relationship will be a total thrill to explore, and I am excited to step into the wonderfully dry shoes of DI Lauren Bell,” continued the star, who worked with Allison on the second season of The Couple Next Door.
Winter will premiere on ITV1 and ITVX later this year.
