Everyone loves a Seiko. The Japanese watchmaker’s affordable, reliable and stylish watches often punch way above their price point, and the 5 Sports line is the perfect example. They look the part and pack brilliant functionality into a timepiece that often won’t break the bank, which is why they’ve developed such a cult following. Well, those fans better brace themselves, since Seiko has just announced two brand-new watches getting added to the permanent line-up (and we can’t help but think they look just a little like a Rolex Submariner…).
The Japanese brand has quietly added two new references to the Seiko 5 Sports SKX line, the HDB004 and HDB005, following on from the purple-dialed HDB003 which is being released for the watchmaker’s 145th anniversary. The two watches both have the same case and day-date windows, but feature differently-c0loured dials and bezels.

The HDB004 features an almost pearly white dial inside a black bezel with yellow-gold-toned numbering, hands, and applied indices. Meanwhile, the HDB005 features a matching deep forest green bezel and dial with rose-gold-toned hands, indices and markings on the bezel.
Mechanically and practically, the two are the same watch: they both come on a stainless steel strap, both features Seiko‘s 4R36 automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve, a 42.5mm case, a unidirectional bezel, 100 metres of water resistance, and luminated hands and indices.
Both watches have an official release in October – and while the price is still a mystery, they’re likely to be around £350.
