Hollyoaks’ Mercedes McQueen faces a difficult time this Christmas, as her devastating addiction struggle destroys her life. After Gemma Johnson’s sinister revenge plan has catastrophic consequences, can anyone help her over the festive period?
“Mercedes has become hooked on prescription anxiety pills, thanks to vengeful Gemma,” our Hollyoaks source reminds us. “Over Christmas, the McQueens come together to celebrate – but Mercedes is fighting a silent battle as she finds it impossible to cope without her illicit medication…”
When Mercedes wakes up on Christmas morning, she feels unable to face the day without the anxiety pills. She’s not exactly in a merry mood, but manages to paint on a smile for her loved ones when the kids wake up full of festive cheer.
The McQueen mayhem begins, but the atmosphere turns when Warren arrives in a charming Santa costume! He’s disappointed to realise that he’s the only one dressed up though, as Mercedes has forgotten her matching elf attire.

As she continues to struggle through the day, desperate Mercedes spots a lifeline when she sees Gemma outside. From over the fence, she pleads for more pills – but will Gemma continue to feed her addiction?
Meanwhile in the McQueen house, while John Paul takes charge of cooking Christmas dinner and Prince worries about the portions of turkey, Theresa is excitedly waiting for Dodger to arrive.
“It seems there’s romance in the air for these former lovebirds!” exclaims our spy. “Theresa feels giddy and wants to impress Dodger, so she seeks out her Mercedes for some advice. But during their heart-to-heart, Mercedes ends up admitting she has doubts about her reunion with Warren…”

Dodger eventually arrives to have Christmas dinner with the McQueens and soon discovers he’s rather overdressed – as the family are all in their pyjamas! But he quickly gets his jammies on, to the delight of his daughter Myra-Pocahontas.
In true McQueen style, things don’t go to plan – though Theresa later gets a knock on the door that makes her Christmas wish come true. But will it be a heartwarming or heartbreaking end to the day for Mercedes?

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
