Casio‘s affordable line-up of watches understandably gets all the love, but the Japanese watchmaker’s most premium offerings are just as impressive. For example, the Oceanus line blends technological excellence with sleek, sophisticated elegance, with watches that almost look as practical as they do dressy. The newest, which was released in Japan earlier this year, has finally seen the beginnings of an international release, and Casio fans have a lot to be excited about.
The Casio Oceanus Manta OCWS7000AP1A has just gone on sale in the US, and it’s one of the most gorgeous watches in the sub-range to date. It’s built around the use of Awa indigo dye, a natural dye made with methods that date back many generations. The 42.8mm watch has a deep black dial with three mother-of-pearl sub-dials, each in a different shade of blue. Plus, the case and strap are made from titanium, giving it a further premium finishing touch.

On the inside, it’s impressive: it has Tough Solar power, allowing it to be powered by any light source, rated for five months of regular use, bluetooth pairing for automatic time correction, a 1-second stopwatch, a day indicator, and a full automatic calendar until 2099. It’s also water-resistant to 100 metres.
Currently, the watch is only available in the US – it’s limited to just 800 pieces, which is smaller than the 1,300 allocation in Japan, each sold at $1,660 (£1,250). As it’s a different number, this is likely a separate, additional limited run rather than the same run of watches in Japan seeing an international release.
