All too often if I am out my mind is made up for me because of a menu with only one or two options.

The Morris Dancer, in Kelsall, however is a perfectly placed haven which is approximately 10 miles and 20 minutes down the road from both Northwich and Winsford.

The Brunning & Price, Chester Road, pub restaurant has Coeliac UK accreditation so you are in the safest of hands from picking up to putting down a knife and fork.

Monday to Saturday’s menu is around two thirds ‘gluten free’ or ‘gluten free available’, two terms which to the uninitiated mean a meal is already ‘free from’ or adaptable to be ‘free from’ respectively.

Meanwhile Sunday’s menu has a similar proportion of ‘gluten free’ or ‘gluten free available’, and it is this that I and a few friends opted for after a walk around Little Switzerland and Primrose Wood.

I had the roast pork (£21.95) with apple and sage stuffing, apple sauce, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables, while others opted for the cheese, onion and potato pie (£17.95) and the chicken, ham and leek pie (£18.95).

Afterwards we had the coconut panna cotta (£7.45) with chilli, mint, passion fruit and pineapple and the sticky toffee pudding (£8.95) with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream to share.

All of the above was gluten free as standard and ordered at great length and great pains out of other options like beer-battered fish and chips (£18.95) and crispy beef salad (£17.95).

It was plentifully portioned, prettily presented and, most importantly, very tasty, not to mention the service by a warm and welcoming staff team.

It is safe to say this is one gluten avoider who will be back.

The pub is at Chester Road, Kelsall, CW6 0RZ. Its opening times are until 11pm between Monday and Saturday and until 10.30pm on Sunday.
