A cult-favourite cookie brand has sent shoppers into a frenzy after finally dropping a highly-anticipated gluten-free version of its iconic biscuit.

For the very first time, Aussie shoppers can enjoy the classic chocolate and vanilla creme combination of an OREO cookie without the gluten, with the new dietary-friendly range officially landing on supermarket shelves nationwide.

‘OMG' Huge change to cult cookie brand

Andra Dempster from Mondelēz International, the company that owns OREO, said the launch is about making the iconic treat accessible for everyone.

“OREO has been a household favourite in Australia for decades, but for those managing a gluten-free diet, that experience has always been out of reach,” Mr Dempster told news.com.au.

“This launch is about changing that.

“OREO Gluten Free delivers the crispy choc cookie and sweet vanilla creme that Australians know and love, making it the perfect treat for afternoon snacking, sharing with friends or enjoying as a family.

The Gluten Free Original is available now at Woolworths, Coles, and selected independent retailers like IGA for $4.50.

The launch comes as demand for high-quality dietary alternatives surges, with recent Quantium data revealing that almost 37 per cent of Aussie shoppers are now purchasing gluten-free products during their grocery runs.

‘Finally’: Social media frenzy

Following the announcement, prominent content creators quickly jumped on social media to claim the product was “delicious” and tasted remarkably similar to the original OREO.

Aussie influencer Sophia Begg, known as “sophadophaa” online, shared her hot take on the new range with her millions of followers.

“Guess what I found!” Begg shared on TikTok.

“Gluten-free OREOs! We really don’t get much over here in the gluten-free world.

“They’re pretty good… I could smash these with tea,” she said, adding that they were “extra” crunchy.

Last year, the 22-year-old collaborated with popular Aussie wellness brand Tropeaka to create her own signature matcha blend that’s 100 per cent gluten and dairy-free.

Another popular content maker, Hannah Fitzy, shared that they definitely didn’t taste like “other gluten-free biscuits” she’s tried before.

“Oh, gosh, yum,” she shared on TikTok. “I reckon I could eat this whole packet!”

Fellow creator Georgie Hansen said the launch was a massive moment for those with dietary restrictions.

“You don’t understand how big this is. This is huge news. I feel like I could cry,” she said in a viral video, which has already racked up 250,000 views.

Hundreds of shoppers flocked to the comment sections across social media to share their excitement over the highly-anticipated new range.

Some weren’t as impressed, noting that the 95g gluten-free range was significantly more expensive than a standard packet of regular OREOs, which retail for around $3 for a 140g packet.

“Ridiculous that gluten-free things cost more,” a frustrated shopper weighed in.

But most were overjoyed with the new range, noting: “They’re so good!”

“OMG gluten-free OREOs, I need this,” another person commented.

“As a coeliac I fell to my knees and cried when I saw these in Woolies! 10/10 ate the whole packet in the car,” a third added.
