Building healthier habits doesn’t necessarily require an overhaul of your daily routine. Balance of Nature founder Dr. Douglas Howard and CEO Lex Howard say keeping things simple and consistent can make health goals easier to maintain over time.

Live South contributor David Osmond sat down with the Howards as part of Amazing America 250, sponsored by Balance of Nature, to discuss nutrition, daily routines and why consistency matters when working toward personal wellness goals.

Building Consistency Into Your Routine

For Dr. Howard, health involves several interconnected areas, including what people put into their bodies, their physical well-being and their emotional or spiritual health.

“Consistency in all of those is what makes health,” Dr. Howard said.

His experience working with patients also showed him that consistently eating fruits and vegetables could be a challenge.

“My goal was to simplify it,” Dr. Howard said. “It wasn’t to make a product, it was to make healthier people.”

That idea eventually became part of the philosophy behind Balance of Nature Fruits & Veggies, a dietary supplement designed to make adding fruits and vegetables to a daily routine more convenient.

Keep Healthy Habits Simple

Lex Howard said one way to make a new habit stick is to connect it with something that’s already part of your everyday routine.

“Connect taking Balance of Nature’s fruits and vegetables back to something that you do every day—brushing your teeth, getting in your car,” Howard said.

That could mean keeping a daily product somewhere you’re likely to see it, such as on a desk or kitchen counter.

“Keep it in front of you. Keep that routine going,” Howard said. “It makes all the difference.”

Dr. Howard agreed, recommending keeping healthy choices visible rather than tucked away and forgotten.

Focus on Sustainable Routines

Osmond and the Howards also acknowledged that consistency doesn’t necessarily mean perfection. Building a routine that is manageable day after day can help make personal goals feel more sustainable.

“When we’re consistent at anything that we have goals on, it just gives us peace of mind,” Lex Howard said.
