Healthspan will take over the former Fone World unit on Winchester High Street, which was home to the phone repair shop for more than a decade.

It sells vitamins, minerals and supplements for joint, heart and digestive health, supplying products including omega-3, cod liver oil, collagen, glucosamine, turmeric and probiotics.

The shop, which has operated online for more than 30 years, will open its third UK store in Winchester on Thursday, October 15.

The launch follows the opening of branches in Salisbury and Horsham earlier this year.

Martin Talbot, CEO of Healthspan, said: “Opening our first stores on the High Street is a significant step for Healthspan and one shaped by customer insight.

“We know from our call centre that people increasingly want guidance when choosing supplements, and that confidence is something we can now offer in person.

“Alongside PR and digital activity, we will be supporting the launch with targeted local advertising, including out-of-home placements, to build awareness and encourage people to visit.

“These stores allow us to support customers more directly, while becoming part of the local High Street and community.”

He added: “ONS data shows that online accounts for around 28 per cent of UK retail sales, meaning the majority still takes place in physical stores. What we are seeing is not a decline of the High Street, but a shift in its role. Categories such as health and wellbeing are particularly well suited to physical retail, as customers often want reassurance, guidance and the ability to speak to someone before making decisions.

“Brands that can combine strong products with in-store expertise are well placed to attract customers and build long-term loyalty.”

Healthspan recently applied to Winchester City Council for permission to install two non-illuminated signs at the premises.

Application 26/01787/AVC includes a traditional fascia sign made from painted Dibond boards with standoff acrylic lettering, plus a metal projecting sign.

Both signs are designed to match the style of neighbouring shops.

People can view and comment on the application on the council’s planning website or at its Colebrook Street offices.
