Alameda restaurant closure

Saga Kitchen

06.26.26: Thanks to the Nosh tipster who informed us Saga Kitchen in Alameda has closed. The Asian food hall served bento boxes, Japanese sandwiches, dim sum, sushi, ramen and more. Saga Kitchen was located at 1707 Lincoln Ave. in Alameda

Berkeley restaurant closures

84 Viet

06.12.26: The Vietnamese restaurant serving pho, bahn mi and other dishes in downtown Berkeley appears closed. Nosh tipster Howard noted that 84 Viet, which first opened in 2023, looked dormant. Indeed, the phone number is disconnected, the restaurant is not accepting online orders, and Yelp commenters have also mentioned it has been closed during regular hours. 84 Viet was located at 2050 Berkeley Way in Berkeley.

Kuboba Spot

06.26.26: The Filipino-inspired empanada and boba restaurant closed on June 20. The business originally launched doing preorders for friends and family, before progressing to pop-ups and catering. In July 2022, the brick-and-mortar location opened. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every one of you,” a farewell message on Instagram states. “We have been incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such a kind, welcoming, and supportive community. Whether you visited us from near or far, your encouragement, loyalty, and friendship have meant more to us than words can express.” Kuboba Spot was at 2618 Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley.

Milyar

06.12.26: Redditors noted that Milyar cafe in South Berkeley has closed, with the space cleared out and an eviction notice posted in the window. (Also, we see you, No-Understanding4968, and Nosh appreciates you and all reader tips!) Milyar opened in Berkeley in early 2024, following a wave of Yemeni coffee shops opening in the East Bay. Milyar was located at 3300 Adeline St. in Berkeley

Zing Cafe

07.02.26: It appears that Zing Cafe in Berkeley, which first opened in early 2015, has closed. A Nosh reader shared with us that the signage is gone, and Yelpers have also reported the cafe has closed. Nosh stopped by and found the signage painted over in black. The cafe, near Ashby BART station in the 1923 storybook-style building that once housed Marmot Mountain Works, served coffee, salads, sandwiches, and pastries. Zing Cafe, 3051 Adeline St. Ste. Sam’s Doghouse

07.02.26: After 42 years in El Sobrante, Sam’s Doghouse has closed. The restaurant specialized in hot dogs and milkshakes. The owners stated, “For over 40 years, you made Sam’s Doghouse more than a business. You made it a gathering place. A neighborhood stop. A family tradition. A place where people came for a hot dog, a milkshake, a quick lunch, a familiar face, and sometimes just a little piece of home. Sam’s Doghouse, 3857 San Pablo Dam Rd., El Sobrante

Emeryville restaurant closure

Koja Kitchen

06.12.26: Nosh tipster Hallie spotted (and The E’ville Eye reported) that the Emeryville Public Market location of Koja Kitchen has closed. The food stall selling a Japanese-Korean fusion menu including Korean barbecue sandwiches first opened in 2015. Koja Kitchen locations in Berkeley, Dublin and Fremont remain open. Oakland restaurant closures

Malibu’s Burgers

06.12.26: As the San Francisco Chronicle reported, vegan burger restaurant Malibu’s Burgers, which has occupied multiple locations, closed in Uptown Oakland on June 6. Owner Darren Preston made the decision to add meat and cheese to the previously all-vegan menu in January, but the change did not alter the fortunes of the restaurant. The Oakland Malibu’s Burgers once was located on Piedmont Avenue, and there was a second location in San Rafael that closed in 2025. Malibu’s Burgers was located at 326 23rd St. in Oakland

True Burger

06.26.26: After 11 years in operation, True Burger has closed its location on Broadway, leaving the original Grand Avenue restaurant as the only remaining location. “Like many independent Oakland businesses, we’ve had a lot of challenges, but the good news is, we’re still here and proud to call Oakland home,” a message posted on True Burger’s Instagram account states. True Burger was located at 4101 Broadway in Oakland.

San Ramon restaurant closure

LB Steak

07.02.26: Vine Hospitality announced the closure of all the LB Steak restaurants, including the San Ramon Bishop Ranch and Santana Row locations. Vine Hospitality also owns Left Bank Brasserie, and those have closed. The Oakland location of Left Bank Brasserie closed in December of 2024.
