SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – As the new year begins, many in the community are setting fitness goals, and local gyms are stepping up to support these resolutions.

West Coast Strength in Springfield is experiencing a surge in memberships, which is expected to continue through January. The gym offers classes and a “Transformation Challenge” to help members remain committed to their fitness journeys.

“We also do a transformation challenge every year, so that transformation challenge kicks off January 12th,” Sarah Keepers, West Coast Strength’s wellness director, said. “We always do, we kind of postpone it for about a week or two after the new year just because people kind of getting their feet, you know, re-wet into the fitness, into their health journey. It’s a 10-week challenge and it’s been a lot of fun. We do prizes for people who win, we have challenges along the way,” said Keepers.

The gym’s classes offer a structured way for individuals to engage in workouts without the stress of planning.

“Yeah, we offer a lot of classes, which are just a great way for people to come in, not have to think about what they’re doing. They can just follow a group workout. It’s a lot of fun. It builds community,” said Keepers. “I do find people who come to classes, they often, they just continue to come back because they build those relationships with people,” said Keepers.

For those who are not members of West Coast Strength, it’s recommended to inquire at their own gyms about similar programs and offerings for the new year.
