The first trailer for the second season of The Paper has been released, with the popular spin-off to The Office set to return to the UK later this year. And in even better news, fans don’t have long to wait!
Created, written and produced by Greg Daniels, the sitcom follows the documentary crew that immortalised Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch, as they find a new subject after discovering a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.
The second season, which will release in full on Sky and NOW on 10 September, takes place after the crew had swept the Ohio Journalism Awards, with Ned searching for a new “journalistic crusade” in his career.

He subsequently jeopardises the future of the paper after taking aim at a local private club, while he also tries to sort through his feelings for Mare. Esmeralda, meanwhile, struggles to “find her place”, while other staff members improve their reporting skills.
Returning for the upcoming season are Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Tim Key, Ramona Young, Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr, Alex Edelman and Oscar Nuñez.
Guest stars for the upcoming season include Jon Lovitz, Andy Richter, Lisa Gilroy, Matt Braunger, Toks Olagundoye and Phil Hendrie. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the creators of the original series, serve as executive producers.
The new trailer teases plenty of antics from the Toledo Truth Teller gang, including some tornado chasing that appears to go horribly wrong. Like before, we can expect plenty of shenanigans and laughs.
The first season of The Paper received positive reviews from critics, and currently holds an impressive approval rating of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes from 106 reviews. The audience score, meanwhile, is at 70%.
AV Club wrote: “The Paper dispels scepticism about its very existence as it progresses. A few growing pains and the inevitable pressure to live up to a certain hype aside, the show’s energy feels infectious thanks to sharp performances, writing and editing.”

“The Paper has forged an enjoyable path and gleans power from Gleeson’s chipper charm, but has yet to find its voice as a standalone sitcom,” penned Empire Magazine, while The Times called it a “sharp, laugh-out-loud funny workplace comedy”.
“The Paper doesn’t really work as a direct Office replacement, since even at its strongest, it never remotely approaches the comedic levels of its parent show. But it may at least function as a methadone-like substitute for fans,” wrote Rolling Stone.
The Paper season 2 will premiere on Sky and NOW on 10 September.
