Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has set up Vinny Dingle’s exit storyline after the character made a big decision about his future in tonight’s episode.

In recent weeks, Vinny was at the centre of a devastating storyline after confessing to his role in the fatal crash that killed Jimmy King and Dawn Fletcher. Distracted by a video call while driving, he inadvertently triggered the chain of events that led to the tragedy.

After the truth emerged, Vinny was arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Released on bail ahead of his court hearing, he now faces the prospect of a prison term.

In tonight’s episode, Vinny opened up to Aaron, telling him he had entered a guilty plea and that he wanted to sign over his share of the scrapyard.

Vinny confirmed that once he has served his sentence, he would not be returning to the village out of respect for Jimmy and Dawn’s families.

“When I get out, I won’t come back. Don’t tell mum that yet ’cause I can’t face her reaction,” he said.

When Aaron said he might feel differently once he was out of prison, Vinny said: “I can’t live here, can I? You know, seeing Jimmy’s kids growing up without a dad. Or Dawn’s without a mum. I won’t come back out of respect for them.”

In an emotional conversation, a tearful Vinny told Aaron he wanted him to have Chip the dog: “Will you please take Chip? She’s such a gorgeous dog, and I can’t bear the thought of her being rehomed.”

Aaron agreed, but he told Vinny he couldn’t afford to buy him out of the scrapyard at the moment, but would deal with it when Vinny was out.

In May, it was reported that Bradley Johnson, who plays Vinny, would leave the ITV soap as part of its cast shake-up, with his exit tipped in the coming weeks.

The actor joined the soap in 2019 as Mandy Dingle’s adopted son, a storyline that coincided with the big return of Mandy star Lisa Riley.

It was later revealed that Vinny was the biological son of Tina Dingle, Mandy’s cousin, and Paul Ashdale.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
