Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle and Sarah Sugden become a detective duo next week as they try to uncover who stole £100,000 from under their noses.

Tensions look set to run high as Aaron and Sarah confront some of the village’s dodgier characters over the missing money.

Friday’s episode (16 October) sees Joe Tate and Robert Sugden go head-to-head during a high-stakes poker game.

In the crucial finale moment, Robert offers up The Hide as a stake, while Joe bets £100,000 of his savings.

Robert’s triumphant and walks away with the six-figure sum – and gets to keep his new business. However, he’s not smiling for long as the bag of money soon goes missing during follow-up celebrations at The Woolpack.

Next week, Robert, Aaron, Sarah and Serena are all stressed because the cash still hasn’t turned up.

Robert is at a particularly low ebb, as he desperately needed this money to kickstart an exciting new era for the Sugden family.

“Robert is gutted that all of his efforts may have been for nothing,” explains our Emmerdale insider. “He’d conspired with Sarah and Serena to outsmart Joe and rig the game in their favour.

“It’s not every day that you get one over on the Tates, so the Sugdens are kicking themselves for leaving the money unattended when they were celebrating! Openly flashing the cash while drinking champagne also probably didn’t help matters…”

Aaron and Sarah take the lead in interrogating the most obvious suspects. Did Joe scheme to get the last laugh? Was fellow poker player Jai Sharma lurking and ready to strike? Or could the culprit be someone even more surprising?

With so many possibilities, they certainly have their work cut out for them…

Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper had previously teased that things might not always go Robert’s way, despite his current ruthless behaviour.

She told us: “Robert is scheming at the moment – and he will have some success with that.

“But it will be about whether those ill intentions might come back to haunt him as well! As manipulative and scheming as Robert is, it doesn’t mean that he’s going to come out of this unscathed…”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
